Chandragiri: one of the Best Hiking Destination in my List

If you are one, who enjoys the beauty of nature, then what is more epic than getting lost in green lush forest with chirping of birds sounds and beautiful sightseeing of jazzed mountains.

On this last Saturday, me and my friend went for a hiking to Chandragiri Hill. It lies in south west fringe of Kathmandu valley and situated at about 2550 m above from the sea level.

We had packed some snacks and water and started our journey with adorable sunrise. Walking along the mixed forest, viewing lush greenery with wildflowers in amid serene nature, felt like stepping into the lap of nature. Blowing whistle and making sound like “HO”, with echo, really amazed you and somewhat works as a medicine for your tiredness. On the way I saw different hiking groups enjoying their togetherness and it made me to remember my college friends, with them I used to go for hiking.

Finally, at around 12 pm, after about 3 hours of exhilarating hiking we reached at the top of the Chandragiri Hill. The spectacular picturesque view of Himalayas vistas, and panoramic view of Kathmandu valley obliged me to open my jaw. On clear blue sky day, you could see Mt. Everest, Mt. Manaslu and Mt. Jugal along with greenery, beautiful villages and of course urban settlement of Kathmandu valley.

Chandragiri offers plenty of options to enjoy there, view towers to watch the panorama of Himalayas vistas, playground for children, restaurants for lunch and horse for riding. Besides them, it is also important from historical and religious point of view. Along the panorama of Himalayas, the area enclosed one of the most important Hindu Temple, ‘Bhaleshwor Mahadev’, which is believed to have worship granting power. Talking about its historical significance, this is the place that king Prithvi Narayan Shah first caught the scenic view of Kathmandu, which later build an idea in the king’s mind to unified in a single Nepal.

Though we were not wanting to leave, beautiful sunset said goodbye to us and finally we returned to our hustling and bustling city with bunch of memories. I felt like this is an amazing privilege with exhilarating returns, and exhausting side effects.

A Perfect Place To Venture Off During Your Weekend In Kathmandu

I was walking into the woods with the rhythm of breeze, chirping of birds and smelling the pine trees and rhododendron and making memories. Yes, I was in the amidst of serene nature.

A few months back, me and my college friends went on a holiday vacation trip to Pilot Baba danda (peak). Pilot Baba which lies inside Suryabinayak Community Forest is situated in the Southeast fringe of Bhaktpur. We had to walk almost two hours from the starting point of Suryabinayak to the Pilot Baba.

Walking along the mixed forest, viewing green forest with wildflowers in full bloom amid serene hills, felt like stepping into the lap of nature. Following the hiking trails that menders from one corner to another, I just stopped and climbed on the tree of rhododendron to collect some flowers. Spectacular view of the lush forest and majestic smell of blossom flowers seemed to soothe my tired limbs.

Pilot Baba, Bhaktapur Nepal

Finally, we reached at the top, a long awaited, final destination of our trek “Pilot Baba”. Located at around 1710 m above from the sea level, Pilot Baba is a historic place. There is a beautiful temple for Hindu devotees. Some of my friends offered pray in the temple and put “Tika” in their forehead. After taking some pictures, we ate our dry foods in a big open picnic spot just beside the temple. We made some jokes of each other and ready to left the Pilot Baba.

It is often said that ‘travel is an amazing privilege with exhilarating returns, exhausting side effects’ and I experienced the same side effects on my trip to Pilot Baba. Even though we didn’t want to leave spectacularly serene place, we left Pilot Baba with mesmerizing memories.
